Trespassing & Guard Goats

This is a picture that I took last night at the train yards.

Last night my friend and I went down to the local train yards to take some pictures. This is something we have talked about doing for a while now, so I was excited to finally do it. We drove around looking for the best spot that had the best access, view, and safety. We seperated for a while to try different angles and such and were really enjoying ourselves. The trains were pretty much all still except for one that went back and forth a few times. We took pictures of the men that were on them. They waved at us and I felt pretty good about some of the shots.

We were there about 45 minutes when I turned around and noticed a dark SUV with flashing lights. It's all fun and games until the cops show up. The police officer asked us if we realized that we were trespassing. We explained that we didn't and that when we had arrived we looked for a sign indicating wether or not we were allowed to go in. Since we saw no signs, we figured we were okay. The officer then went on to tell us how they didn't need to post signs because every court in the land knows that it is illegal to be down by the train tracks. My friend and I were thinking to ourselves that it is too bad that we aren't the courts. He asked for identification. My friend handed his over, unfortunately I didn't have mine as I had left it in the car. He wrote down our names and addresses. I asked him what he was going to do. Would we receive a ticket or fine? He said he was trying to decide. After giving us a lecture on the fatality rates at train yards and getting stuck on train tracks, he finally let us go with a warning. He told us that if we came down again we would get a ticket. Too bad that we hadn't noticed this before we looked at our pictures when we returned home:

Next we realized that we were in a situation as we weren't allowed to go back across the tracks to get back to our car. So the officer recommended that we go around the block and cross over the overpass area and go back to our car. It was a bit out of the way, but hey at least I was able to add some extra steps onto my pedometer. Right before we got back to my car, we noticed some goats that were penned in. We stopped and looked at them and the noticed that as we left, they tried following us. I asked my friend what I thought they were doing there, and he suggested that they were guard goats. I mean, you know that every train tracks has their own personal guard goats.

Well it turned out to be a more adventurous night then planned, but it is a fun story to tell.

Hey, glad to know that your pedometer is working again, or did you get a new one? ;)

I bought a new one ... actually I was on my third, but that one died yesterday ... getting a bit frustrated with them in all honesty!
