About Face

This is a picture of Katie Holmes from an unidentified photographer.

My mind has been thinking a lot about changes lately and the same question keeps coming to my mind, at what point do you try to change who you are?

Here is the situation, many people have told me over the years not to change the person that I am. That the person that is American Girl is a good person, yet these same people have criticized various parts of who I am. They have told me that I am judgmental, they have told me that I talk too much, they have told me that I am negative, etc.

What parts do I believe? and what parts do I change?

American Girl, I think that being ourselves is obviously important. Authenticity and genuineness are always better than falsehood and fakeness. I don't think we always need to change who we are, but sometimes we need to change what we do. I am not suggesting this about you in particular, in general we all have things that we need to do more of or less of. Some people have a bad temper and one could say that is part of who they are, but they could improve who they are by changing what they do. What parts need changing are up to you. I have found in my own life that those parts become known, sometimes in ways that are not very fun. It is part of the journey!

None of us are perfect. Other people will always find things that they don't like. The decision is what do YOU not like about yourself....that is what you need to work on changing. There will always be advise given and then then decision is yours what to do with it. It is one of the fun things we get to do as imperfect mortals. Yahoo!!

In many ways I feel like I have been a chameleon in my life. Ever changing to fit my surroundings. It isn't that I've changed my core being, or the things that make me what I am (a lizard, if you will...) It's just that part of my nature is adapting to change.

When I think about this in those terms, I think it's important for all of us to remain whatever we are, but sometimes, to become the best kind of whatever we are, we have to make some changes. Those changes are up to you dear.
