Through the Eyes of a Child

This picture was taken by Radu Sigheti on March 22, 2005 in Uganda.

Seeing an image like this one reminds you of all the things that are occurring in the world around us. Sometimes we walk outside our own door and become so wrapped up in our own lives that we forget that in other countries there is war and famine. The eyes of these two children have seen so much in their short lives and their innocence is lost as they struggle to live from day to day during a 19-year civil conflict.

We are so blessed to have freedom in our nation here in the United States of America. This weekend I spent time with my adopted nieces & nephew. The largest concern in their lives right now is getting to tae kwon do practice, being allowed to eat the chocolate bar that is sitting on the counter and whether or not their parents will let them watch “the Baby Movie”. I am so grateful that they still have their innocence and find pleasure in the small things in life like turtles, swirling dresses, and snaps.

That is a haunting picture. I still have to go see Hotel Rwanda.

You are right. There is so much suffering in the world, and the little problems we have pale in comparison. Thanks for the reminder.
